Intruder alarms are widely accepted as an effective deterrent for burglars; they provide a useful warning and limit theft and damage to premises.
BSI’s standards and publications give recommendations on the installation, maintenance and management of intruder and hold-up alarm systems. There is also guidance on minimizing the incidence of false alarms.
BS 8473:2006 gives guidance on the management of intruder and hold-up alarm systems (I&HAS), and the management of alarm conditions when they occur in order to reduce the nuisance factor and waste of resources in responding to false alarms.
It applies to all remotely notified intruder and hold-up alarm systems and also applies to audible only intruder and hold-up alarm systems, except where otherwise stated.
