Increasingly people carry a number of cards, ranging from bank cards and credit cards to prepaid travel cards. Many of these are integrated circuit (IC) cards. These are embedded with IC chips that can store large quantities of information. BSI’s European standards give recommendations on the security issues relating to the use of IC cards and terminals.
Part 2 of ISO/IEC 7812 specifies the application and registration procedures for Issuer Identification Numbers (IINs) issued in accordance with ISO/IEC 7812-1. (ISO/IEC 7812-1 specifies a numbering system for the identification of issuers of cards that require an IIN to operate in international, interindustry and/or intra-industry interchange.)
