Standards for paints cover a wide range of applications, including steel structures, masonry and wood. The majority of the standards are test methods for paints, paint components and related materials but there are also specifications for some products; standards for the preparation of steel surfaces; colour standards; codes of practice, and a vocabulary.
Generally the standards would be used as the basis for contracts for purchasing materials and for work on the protection and decoration of buildings, such as airports, schools and hospitals, as well as other structures, such as ships, oil rigs and bridges.
The standards will be of use to manufacturers; contractors; architects and other specifiers; testing laboratories, and inspectors in many different industries.

BS EN ISO 2808 is an international standard that describes a number of methods that are applicable to the measurement of the thickness of coatings applied to a substrate. Methods for determining wet-film thickness, dry-film thickness and the film thickness of uncured powder layers are described. Reference is made to individual standards where these exist. Otherwise the method is described in detail.
An overview on the methods is included, in which the field of application, existing standards and the precision are specified for the individual methods.
