Cleanrooms

Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments provide for the control of airborne particulate contamination to levels appropriate for accomplishing contamination-sensitive activities. Products and processes that benefit from the control of airborne contamination include those in such industries as:

  • healthcare
  • aerospace
  • microelectronics
  • pharmaceuticals
  • medical devices
  • food and drink

In some of these industries, the product or process can be sensitive to, or can be destroyed by, molecular contamination resulting from airborne molecules that are present due to external, process, or otherwise generated sources.

For more information about cleanrooms read the BSI article on international standards for cleanrooms and associated controlled environments.

Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. Vocabulary

BS EN ISO 14644 Part 6 establishes a vocabulary of terms and definitions related to cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. This part of BS EN ISO 14644 is a compendium of the terms and definitions given in the other parts of BS EN ISO 14644 and also in BS EN ISO 14698-1 and BS EN ISO 14698-2.
