Utilities and building interiors

BSI provides standards and publications offering guidance and specification on sanitary installations, wiring and other utilities and interior finishes.

Sanitary standards apply to private dwellings, residential and nursing homes for older people, workplaces, shops and shopping malls, public toilets and temporary toilets, petrol stations, schools, theatres, cinemas, exhibition centres, libraries, museums, hotels, restaurants, licensed pubs, nightclubs and sports facilities.

This British Standard, a part of the BS 6465 series, provides recommendations on the design of sanitary facilities and the recommended scale of provision of sanitary and associated appliances in new buildings and buildings undergoing major refurbishment.  It also covers the recommended scale of provision of portable toilets.
