Achievements in Ecuador

Silva culture is one of the largest potential exports of Ecuador, and establishing confidence in the market for the safety of the product is essential to ensure sustainable growth, especially as the farmers are mainly SMEs and rely totally on the income from one product: shrimp.

BSI was asked to manage the food safety agreement with the Ecuadorian government (Instituto Nacional de Pesca) for the antibiotics testing of all shrimp being exported from Ecuador - mainly to the European Union and the USA.

A laboratory was established, equipped with the latest equipment for measuring minute quantities of chemicals and accredited to internationally recognized standards.

The BSI laboratory has eight permanent staff, all highly trained in food testing and quality management.
