BSI worked in Albania to facilitate international trade and help Albania to take full advances of the liberalization process of markets in the framework of the Stabilization and Association Process (SAP). Work was also carried out on the harmonization of standardization and certification procedures for products according to EU standards.
General
- The creation of the conditions for the improvement of the Albanian quality infrastructure.
- DPS ISO 9001:2000 was certified.
Standardization
- Established Albanian standardization structure (ref. Directive 98/34/EC) and separation of regulation, certification, and accreditation functions.
- Full transposition of main product areas to EU standards.
- Training of all staff at standardization implementation level in the DPS to possess knowledge and capacity of working according to requirements stipulated in EU regulation.
- Produced a review and gap analysis of membership criteria of CEN/CENELEC.
- Promotion of European standards and CE marking to small economic operators (SMEs).
Certification
- Defined Albanian conformity assessment structure.
- Increased the number of accredited conformity assessment bodies.
- Developed an investment plan for conformity assessment bodies in main product areas.
- Delivered basic testing equipment in one or two sectors.
Accreditation
- Achieved a functioning Albanian accreditation scheme.
