Displaying compliance

To claim compliance with a standard, an organization must buy it, read it and implement its requirements in all relevant business areas. For added weight, some businesses choose to have their compliance verified by an outside auditor or test organization. To get the greatest benefit from compliance, a company can display certification marks:

  • directly on products
  • on company literature
  • on marketing communications
  • in correspondence with suppliers and customers.

The importance of certification

There are literally thousands of certification marks available worldwide. In Europe, the simplest way to demonstrate compliance with EU directives is through a harmonised European standard, prepared specifically for this purpose. BSI can offer information and support on technical requirements, product testing and certification schemes around the world.

Examples of popular certification marks

BSI’s Kitemark symbol, associated with tens of thousands of products and services, assures consumers that rigorous test procedures have been conducted successfully.

The presence of a CE mark demonstrates compliance with European directives and resulting national legislation. Products governed by European directives are required by law to carry CE marks if they are sold in or imported to any of the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA).

Details of the methods of verification vary from directive to directive, so for more information visit the New Approach website.
