Launch of Draft Review environment for British Standards to enable more effective public consultation, contribution and review.

BSI is pleased to announce the launch of its Draft Review system for national Drafts for Public Comment (DPCs).

The Draft Review system is a free, easy to use, web-based tool designed to encourage participation from all those who have an interest in the subject area. Comments are moderated onto the system and are then made visible to registered users, giving everyone the opportunity to see what other participants contribute.

Currently, once a national standard is at a stage where it is mature enough for public consultation and comment and proposed changes, a copy can be purchased from BSI. The commenter then collates their comments in isolation and without the benefit of seeing whether or not that comment has already been made, using a standard format. Those comments are then submitted to the relevant BSI where they are collated, ready for submission to the committee for review. The new process allows visibility of all comments to all users and automates the collation process.

The system has been produced to enable access to DPCs to a wider community and stakeholders; to facilitate collaborative working and to enable BSI to manage comments on drafts standards originating from the UK. As a result, the UK will get more robust and relevant standards through wider participation, raising the quality of national standards, and highlighting standardization activity.

The system will be available in May and will include British Standards and selected Publicly Available Specifications (PASs). European and International documents will not be included at this stage.

A list of draft standards available for comment can be found at http://drafts.bsigroup.com and in the Update Standards magazine available to BSI Members, as part of their BSI Membership subscription.
