Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) can be defined as 'any device to be worn or held by users for protection against one or more health and safety hazards'. To meet the requirements of the EU PPE Directive (89/686/EEC), manufacturers of PPE must ensure their products conform to either the relevant harmonized European standard or to a technical specification deemed to be appropriate by a Notified Body.
