PRESS RELEASE
07 January 2008
BSI Management Systems Japan issued its 1,000th Information Security Management System certificate in December 2007. At a time when the protection of information has hit the headlines, Japanese organizations have demonstrated the value of having an Information Security Management System (ISMS) which meets international best practice standards.
In today's competitive business environment, information is constantly under threat from many sources. These can be internal, external, accidental, or malicious. With the increased use of new technology to store, transmit, and retrieve information, there has been a subsequent increase in the numbers and types of threats. Information security is more than a simple matter of technology; it is a major governance issue and can directly affect an organization's reputation and ultimately its survival. It is therefore vital that an organization takes steps to protect its information assets. A proven solution is the adoption of an ISMS, which meets the requirements of ISO/IEC 27001, the international best practice standard.
BSI Management Systems has led the global ISMS certification market since BSI published BS 7799, the predecessor to ISO/IEC 27001. BSI Management Systems Japan, ahead of other certification bodies in Japan, launched an accredited BS 7799 certification service in 2002. Since then the company has issued more than 1,000 certificates to organizations from various sectors, including telecommunication and IT, and enjoys a market leading 40% share.
Mitsumasa Tokunaga, Managing Director of BSI Management Systems Japan said, “This is a great milestone. BSI Management Systems Japan continues to contribute to BSI’s global leadership of this vital market. We are pleased to continue to help organizations protect one of their most critical assets and we will not rest on our laurels since our efforts to enhance the quality of our ISMS certification service continues”.
